Why is hace used in this sentence?
Hace frio afuera it is cold outside
why is hace used in that sentence? i dont understand that.
why can't you just say "Es frio afuera."

If you did it would be " Está frío afuera."
With certain verbs about the weather, however, Spanish user Hacer, rather than Ser or Estar to mean "to be".
Other weather verbs are used like normal verbs, llover and nevar, being examples.
