Hola bmellos! Welcome to Span¡shD!ct!! alt text

If you are trying to write out the number 2009 in words then it would be dos mil nueve however, if you are trying to write out 2009 in number form then it would be 2009, because numbers are the same in Spanish and English. Hope this helps you!

Dos mil y nueve if the form that most conforms with other dates in Spanish. 1985 is mil novecientos ochenta y cinco. 1951 is mil novecientos cincuenta y uno. Spanish dates (numbers) place the "y" before the "ones" units (unless the number is zero).

The common use of dropping the y in the years of the first decade of the century (2001-2009) is similar to dropping the cero in years that end in "zero". 1950 is mil novecientos cincuenta not; mil novecientos cincuenta y cero.

Therefore, dos mil nueve is most common.

Mark is the closest. If you want to say "the year 2009" you'd say "del año dos mil nueve" However if you want to simply translate 2009, you would say "dos mil nueve" If you say 2,000 and 9, it would be dos mil y nueve... usually we don't say "2000 and 9" so I would not recommend using "y".
