I'm in México!
Hi everybody! I've gotten a few emails asking why I haven't been visiting the forum lately. It's because I'm in Mexico!
I'm in a total immersion program here in Oaxaca to learn some advanced Spanish. Here at the Instituto Cultural Oaxaca I study grammar for 3 hours and then conversation for 2 hours each day. Then I'm off to pottery, cooking, or weaving class. It's really a great school with awesome teachers.
Well, I'll be here for the whole month of January without my laptop, but I'll try to visit the forum whenever I can get to an Internet Cafe.
Besos y abrazos a todos,
Marianne

I wish I were in Oaxaca like you.

¡Caramba! Eso parece de poca madrel! Buena suerte y ten cuidado!
We miss you Marianne, but have a great time!
You've been blessed by your great choice, Marianne.
What a great place to study!
You're also at a very fine school. I took a month there, too, and stayed on for another two months, living in a small rented house outside the city to explore surrounding towns and ancient archeological cites.
Your note has brought back wonderful memories: The Zocolo! The amazing cathedrals and ancient churches! The green stone! The museums! The art! The music! The crafts! Monte Alban! The incredible landscape from high mountains to deep river valleys!
But what I liked most is that the city is such a great and safe one for walking - at any time of day or night. Excellent way to work off sampling all those wonderful moles in a place that's been called (arguably, of course!) the "culinary capital of Latin America."
(If you can, visit Ocotlán, a city to the southeast, on its major market day. It's one of the busiest, merriest, most colorful ones I've ever visited anywhere in Mexico.)
Marianne:
| Congratulations on your exciting month at school. I hope your realization of your plan is at least twice as rewarding as your anticipation of it. And then you are still left with the remembrance of the trip. Bonus, bonus, bonus. Best wishes for a good month. | Felicitaciones por su excitante mes en la escuela. Espero que la realización de sus planes es al menos dos veces tan gratificante como su previsión de él. Y luego todavía queda el recuerdo del viaje. Bono, bono, bono. Mis mejores deseos para un buen mes. |

Hi Marianne. I have definitely missed your voice here on the forum, but I am glad to hear that you are safe and having what sounds like a wonderful time. I hope you enjoy yourself to the fullest while you're there, and when you come back please don't forget to regale us with tales of all the fun things you did and interesting things you saw so that we can be even more green with envy than we already are ![]()
Be safe - we miss you.

Hey, so you're not far from where I was a few days ago. My husband and I went to Huatulco and we visited Santa Cruz and La Crucecita in the state of Oaxaca. We went on a mountain tour to get some local culture. It was great. Your course sounds amazing - I would love to do something like that!
I've been missing you and wondering where you were! Now I must try to keep myself from jealousy. I would so love to do what you are doing!
Marianne, have a wonderful time and please hurry back!
That sounds cool. We (Abuelita y yo) are planning to stop in Antigua Guatemala on our way back from Colombia, in Abril. We'll be taking classes for 4 weeks from mid abril to mid mayo. I'm hoping we'll get to see some of the forest, some Mayan ruins, and maybe do some buceo on a weekend. I'm hoping to be able to take the DELE test shortly after the school.
I would love to find out if this school would allow me to have my daughter. My husband and I both would want to go for this month school!! I would love any information on this wonderful idea!
Please be safe. It is a magical place where you are and I am sooooo envious right now. It also brings back many memories of my misspent youth. sigh What can you do?
Much love and encouragement on your journey!!
Estoy lleno de envidia! Buena suerte.
Sounds great ![]()
Have a great time and do not forget to visit the archeological sites around Oaxaca city.
Sounds like lots of fun! Be sure to take pictures so that we can see them when you get back! ![]()
