Do you have any "Spanish" New Years Resolutions?
With the 2010 only three days away, I am more determined than ever to refocus my efforts in Spanish and to reorganize my own study program. I feel that a tremendous amount of progress has been made this year, but I want to devote even more time next year.
So although many are resolving to lose weight, get organized, get out of debt, etc. I am focusing on really working on my verbs (all the moods, tenses, irregularities, etc.).
Do you have any special Spanish New Years resolutions or do you just need encouragement to continue? ![]()

This is a great thread idea, because setting goals is a great way to achieve.
In 2010 I will:
- Finish the Learn Spanish course here
- Complete and master my CD set "Learn in Your Car Spanish
- Finish the Destinos video series, then watch it through a second time.
- Attend a Spanish speaking church by summer.
- By year end, be able to converse well with others.
My progress in 2009 was monumental. If I can achieve as much in 2010, I will be able to do this.
I don't usually try to alter anything for the new year but I would really like to learn to get over my fear of speaking to people in Spanish. For example customers that don't speak English but Spanish shop in my store all the time and I would like to speak in Spanish to them comfortably. I am just afraid of rejection.
Well, I'd really like to get some opportunity to talk under a supervision of a skilled native speaker or teacher of Spanish. My friend who teaches Spanish lives just a minute away, but she's really busy 24/7.
I think I'll just keep learning using:
- SpanishDict lessons and forum (the users' help is really priceless!),
- my favourite podcasts from spanishpodcast.org and cody's cuentos,
- "De Pe A Pa" student's book,
- some graded readers,
- lingus.tv and their short funny films,
- a book about Spansh grammar,
- and who knows what else.
I know that I can't afford any course of Spanish abroad this year, but I feel privileged anyway. If it wasn't for the Internet, the thought of learning Spanish would have never crossed my mind.

I know this is a fear that many people have. It is easy to practice in the comfort of your home. But faced with the decision to try to speak it out loud in public is a different story. Just yesterday, a Spanish speaking man was struggling in a store where I was shopping. He was looking for olive oil, but the clerk spoke no Spanish and was confused. Both were frustrated. I decided to intervene. Unfortunately, I have lost my voice this week, so I had to give him help in a Spanish whisper!

Don't be afraid!!! Spanish speaking people are the most forgiving and the most helpful when it comes to learning their language. Just dive in there and make the mistakes. They will prove to be some of your best learning experiences and will also provide you with many funny stories for the future. It is a win-win situation!!

I'm going to master the grammar and verb tenses so I can speak more proefficiently. Then, if I have time, master the language itself. In the next year (or two jaja), ¡quiero ser fluída! ![]()
I'm gonna try to learn to make pastelitos and baleadas... They're typical honduran food from my patria
Quiero viajar por España y conocer nuevos lugares!!!!

Ya estoy aquí con mis buenos propósitos para el Año Nuevo:

In the spirit of the New Year, I resolve to create 31 vocabulary lists, one for each day of the month. I will review the list which corresponds to that day of the month several times, daily. I will create the list from my reading, listening and SpanishDict.com
Increase my vocabulary, as I feel that it the only thing limiting me right now.
Dj Huero, toma las palabras de mi boca. ¡Quiero ser fluída, tambien en español! Buenas suerte mi amigo. ![]()
!. Finish the lessons on this site 2 Attend services done in Spanish. I have no excuse there are two churches in town that have Spanish services every Sunday.
I'm moving to a Spanish speaking country in a couple months, so I expect my Spanish will improve immensely. This is a little more definite than a resolution ![]()
