Silla y sillón

So my cup and bowl question opened up another question. I loved how Isabella showed me the relationship between taza and tazón. What is the difference between silla and sillón? When I looked them both up, the answer came back as chair.

Pues, ahora puedo añadir algunos ejemplos más:

una camisa (a shirt) - un camisón (a nightdress)

una cintura (waist; a small girdle for the waist) - un cinturón (a belt)

una silla - un sillón

una taza - un tazón

una botella (a bottle) - un botellón (informal street gathering where young people meet to drink and socialize)

una rata (rat) - un ratón (mouse)

As we can see, the "small-big" rule is not always aplicable smile

According to our SpanishDict dictionary, silla means a chair, and sillón means armchair. Well, an armchair shoud be bigger than a chair, right? And similarly, a bowl is generally bigger than a cup wink
