what does it mean when someone says you live life por el amor al arte?

We use (in Chile) to say that if you do something for free. Example: To teach a language just or because you like it, without thinking in any kind of payment. In that case you said: Lo hago or lo hice por amor al arte...

I don't know if it means te same in other countries.

What Carlos said makes the most sense to me. Unless....maybe they meant to write art with a capital A, in which case, it would be about somebody married to a guy named Art who would be living her life for the love of her life...Art. (jejejeje)
