"Abaratar" is "To make cheaper" from the word, "Barato." We use it when bartering for small items such as food at outdoor markets and trinkets for tourists.
For other cases such as lowering prices, reducing amounts, weights, etc, we commonly use, "bajar," "rebajar," and "reducir."
