About igual que
Igual que ____ sus amigas, a Elena le gusta salir de viaje en las vacaciones. Is "igual que a sus amigas" right, and is it right to just say " igual que sus amigas"? Thanks a lot.

To say like her friends I see no reason for the "a", so I was wondering why he was confused.
I'm not sure if it is correct, but I would be tempted to put the a there to follow the pattern in the main clause. Salir is pleasing a Elena. Therefore, salir would be pleasing a sus amigas.
Like (it is) to her friends, traveling is pleasing to Elena.
gual que a sus amigas. esa es la respuesta correcta
Like her friends, Elena likes to travel during her vacations.
I agree. I was just trying to guess why he thought the "a" should be there. If he thought he had a combination of indirect objects, then I could see his reasoning.

If you consider a sus amigas to be in conjunction with a Elena (replace the igual que with ambos) then the le pronoun will not be appropriate for a sus amigas because you would need to use les.
I am not familiar with the construction "Igual que," but it doesn't look like he is combining Elena and her friends, but rather making a comparison between her friends and Elena. It looks like he is trying to say something like...
Like her friends, Elena likes to travel during her vacations.
In which case, the le would be fine as is, I think.
Intriguing question.

Hope a native gives you the answer.
