Greeting Teachers and Friends

Hello spanish amigos.
I'm going to spain next semester, and am trying to figure out all of my greetings before i go.
so teachers are usted.
Es un placer para conocerse a usted???

should new people i meet be informal?

Aw thanks :D and for "new people' i mean class mates i know in japan you use formal with all people your own age until otherwise specified, is it the same in spain?
with younger i can use informal si?

Hello Maggie-May, I'm not certain about the etiquette for using usted/tu when meeting people in Spain. I know that Spaniards use the tu form more than most other Hispanic cultures. But I would imagine it to be safe if you used 'usted' until you see it is appropriate to do otherwise.

Incidentally your greeting:

Es un placer para conocerse a usted

would be better said:

"Es un placer conocerle." (or "... conocerle a usted." but the 'usted' is implied in 'conocerle.)

Here's another one worth learning: "Encantada de conocerle a usted." is "Delighted to meet you." (Encantada, not Encantado because you're a female.)

I would definitely stick with the formal when meeting somebody new. Unless otherwise specified. I hope this helps and welcome to the forum!!
