The year is showing up now?

I can be a tad dense sometimes, and oblivious to the obvious, but I'm curious about the year of the date of a post showing up in the threads now. I know that they haven't always been there.
Was there a formal announcement that I missed? How long have they been there?
At any rate, Great Idea! (I commented on a thread recently that I thought was a few weeks old, but was one year old...

You are correct. I cannot remember seeing the year on these old threads. The day and the month yes, but not the year.
