I would have to say that if you live in the U.S. it would be the perfect second language due to the large number of Mexican immigrants who don't speak English very well. Especially if you live near the border of Mexico.
Spanish is a great second language. Besides the other good answers, learning Spanish opens the doors to meeting and becoming friends with tons of great people!!!
I have never regretted the decision to learn Spanish or the many opportunities it has provided for me so far.
The above are fine responses and I agree with them all. In answer to the original question, it's good to know any second, third, or fourth language simply because, as the old saying goes, "To know just one language is to know none." (Easily understood once you realize that language is culture, and vice versa).
I would say yes it is a very good second language if you live in the U.S. anywhere. Good example: I live in Iowa where it is cold and windy this time of year. As I was driving down the road this morning I noticed a woman walking along side of the road in the cold and the wind, so I offered a ride, she only spoke a little broken english and I'm only a beginner here on the site, but was able with my limited knowledge of Spanish able to get her to where she needed to be! She was very grateful.
For preperation of colleges spa 101 credits and living in the south west it all ways a good idea to learn some spainsh. Some folks also learning to operate computers find spanish to be one method of seeing it in another prespective!
For most people, Spanish is probably a better choice for a second language than, say, Inuit, Ainu or Montagnard.
Once you know one romance language, learning (or even understanding) other languages is easier. its a great language!
Absolutely!! Especially if you live in or near any of the southern border states. I recently moved to south central Florida from NC and I could just kick myself for not taking Spanish in high school. For some reason they were pushing Latin on us at the time. Did they think all of us were going to live in Vatican City? Anyway, my slowly growing knowledge of Spanish is helping me immensely in the work and social environments. As is often repeated on this site, Spanish speakers are super friendly with those who are attempting to speak their language. And Span¡shD!ct makes it very fun!!!
