When to use A quien and quien.

I would like to know when to use a quien and quien. What is the difference? Thanks

a quién: to whom/who (direct or indirect object)

quién: who (normally subject)

¿Quién dice esto? Who says?

¿A quíen ves? Who do you see?

¿A quién le das el libro? To whom do you give the book?

When the relative pronoun is the object of a preposition you will use the correct preposition + quien, when the referent is a person, or que when the referent is inanimate.

Example:

Juana es la mujer a quien envio la comida- Juana is the woman to whom I'm sending food. Antonio es el hombre a quien amo.- Antonio is the man whom I love. "a " in this sentence is the personal a. not the same as **a **quien****.

Este es el libro en que pienso.- This is the book about which I'm thinking.

El es el hombre con quien trabajo. - He is the man with whom I work.
