Ok, so for a test tomorrow i need to know how to use tener + que + infinitive. But i am a little confused. I am also suppose to use a personal A where necessary but i don't know where that would go. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Tener que + infinitive

• Conjugate the verb tener according to the subject of your clause

• This formula is one way to express obligation "I have to (tener que) + do something (infinitive)

Examples

• "Tengo que irme" = I have to leave

• "Tengo que cortar el césped" = I have to mow the lawn

• "Tengo que ir al supermercado = I have to go to the store

• "Tengo que acostarme = I have to go to bed.

Personal a

In a nutshell, the personal a usually precedes a direct object when the direct object is:

• a person

• a beloved pet

• a group of people

Here's an example:

I need to find my book: Tengo que encontrar mi libro.

I need to find my daughter: Tengo que encontrar a mi hija.

I need to find a dentist: Tengo que encontrar un dentista.

Mi hija gets the personal a because it's a specific person.

Un dentista does not get the personal a because there's no specific dentist.
