Blank speech bubbles

Blank speech bubbles

Hi Paralee. Great site - what a joy. Just completed my first lesson. All of the cartoon characters' speech bubbles are blank. That doesn't cause a problem until I get to the RECALL section and then I can't tell from the cartoon if I should answer in Spanish or in English (and can't see the prompt in the speech bubble.) Do I need additional software? I am using Mozilla Firefox browser. Thanks, drgoodie

I see in your profile you've done lesson 1.1, which I have also done and I haven't seen any that want the answer in English. Which answer did they want in English?

Or maybe they did and I forgot! That is quite possible :) - Lrtward, Dec 16, 2009
aHA! I took the Recall test again. In the "incorrect answers" view, the Prompts are given in Spanish and the Correct Answers are given in English. That made me think they wanted the answers in English. Thanks everyone! - drgoodie, Dec 16, 2009
At first I did not notice my incorrect answers were punctuation or spelling mistakes, so though I had given the right answer in the wrong language. Seeing the correct answer listed in English made me think ...... glad I'm over that one! - drgoodie, Dec 16, 2009

The speech bubbles are showing what form of the verb your supposed to be using.

For example: If the speech bubble is coming out of one persons mouth, the only person in that picture, you know your going to use the yo form of the verb.

If the speech bubble is coming out of one person's mouth, who's pointing at another person, you know that you should use the or usted form etc.

Hope this helps!

Nice explanation and examples. :-) - chaparrito, Dec 16, 2009
Lesson 1 Recall test: The cartoon shows someone waving at you. I answer "hola". Wrong. The answer is "hello". The speech bubble I could not see evidently had the word "hola" in it and I should have translated into English. - drgoodie, Dec 16, 2009
Thanks ! This is definitely helpful. - drgoodie, Dec 16, 2009

They are empty. Look closely to who the speech bubble is coming from or is directed to. I too find this system confusing but it works once you get the hang of it. Hopefully someone will explain it better for you.

Yes, you can usually figure it out just from the cartoon. However, in RECALL, they want some of the answers in English - you don't know that until after you answer in Spanish and get the "incorrect" flag that shows the answer should have been in English. - drgoodie, Dec 16, 2009
