Confused by the word "Ancha"!

For some reason i thought you could used the word "ancha" for inch, aswell as pulgada, but have just looked it up in the dictionary, and it seems to be wrong, have i been using the completely wrong word?

I'm pretty sure you have, carli. :( Sorry. As far as I know ancho means wide.

and ancha is used for feminine nouns: esta blusa está ancha, this blouse is wide - Mokay, Dec 16, 2009
