Abbreviations for Measurements

I am looking to find out if Spanish abbreviates units of measure, specifically whether "lb" is used for "libra," as in 50 libras. It is not a question of converting to kilos - that won't work for this.

Hi Kristy,

You might want to notice that the word libra is exactly the same as the Latin word from which the abbreviation lb. stems from. While most Spanish-speaking nations (along with much of the rest of the world) have officially adopted the metric system, it actually makes more sense to use the abbreviation with Spanish than it does to use with the English equivalent "pounds."
