Per Wiki ‹w› is named uve doble as v is named uve. In (Latin) America it is sometimes called doble ve, ve doble, doble uve. Because of the English aculturation in Mexico it is usually called doble u (like English "double u").

I was taught Castillian Spanish in school and we learned it as doble u.

Hi aloshek, in Castillian Spanish would be "uve doble" ( not "doble u") - iker, Dec 11, 2009
I have learned that much of what I was taught in school was erroneous. It has caused me much confusion. - aloshek, Dec 11, 2009
