Hi Walter

I think "te" in darte is an indirect object "las malas noticias" is the direct object.

I could be wrong so see what others think.

and "lamento" = I am sorry

Te - indirect object

Lamento - first person present indicative of the verb lamentar.

If translated another way, the DO/IO may be clearer: "I am sorry to give the bad news (DO) to you (IO)."
