Chef versus Cook

Chef versus Cook

¿Cómo se dice "chef" en español? ¿Qué significa esto? Is there a difference between "chef" and "cook" in Spanish speaking kitchens? Are they just labeled the boss or is there another title? Is there a certain connotation of "experienced/ professional cook" attached like in the States?

Good question.

The dictionary says "chef" is chef or jefe de cocina. The "cook" would be cocinero.

Let's see what some native Spanish speakers have to say.

In today's restaurants it does not have much significance except hygene. In the past though, the size of the hat, the material (cloth/ paper), and the number of pleats or folds in the hat reflected the person's role. - prismaticed, Dec 3, 2009
