I was just told by Eddy that his wife is going on a shopping spree....with a friend!! so the whole package he said, shop till they drop!

LOL

Do you do the same when Christmas shopping?

No.

Long ago we came to the conclusion that it was ridiculous to spend all that time, money and effort buying expensive gifts that the recipients probably didn't even want, only to receive in return expensive gifts that we didn't want.

So we came to an arrangement with our friends and family - they use their money to buy themselves something that they do really want, and we do the same with ours.

Then we have a big party to tell one another what we bought ourselves for Christmas.

The children are excepted from this,of course - they simply tell us what they want, and we order it online.

Just like Sheila, my family has decided not to buy gifts this year. We are going to spend time together and have a big dinner instead.

The money that I would have spent on gifts is going to charity.

I think people focus too much on the material aspect of Christmas and forget the true reason for CHRISTmas.

I like giving and receiving gifts but they don't have to be big for them to be special. My favorite may be the stocking stuffers: we fill the stockings with little stuff that we like. It is always nice to get shaving cream, hair ties, and other useful stuff that I buy all the time and really like having around.

And thoughtful surprises are far better than expensive gifts. Don't spend a lot of money, just put a lot of thought into it.

Books are good too. :D

Which doesn't count because he has to get permission from his wife if the subject is at all controversial. - samdie, Dec 3, 2009

I don't like the Christmas rush, though I'm looking forward to Christmas time, as finally I'll have a break from work. Nevertheless, I'll have to shop a bit - for presents and for food. I'm a little claustrofobic and I hate crowded places (like supermarkets). I usually take a deap breath and plunge in.
