Will you check my preterite/imperfect spanish sentences?

Question

I'm struggling with with putting preterite and imperfect together when there are 'interrupting actions'. Can you help me check these sentences that I wrote? Do I need to switch around my imperfect and preterite placement?

1. Cuando nosotros cantábamos, yo apagué la vela.

2. Cuando nosotros nadamos, mi padre cocinó las hamburguesas.

3. Cuando mi perro bebía el agua, Brad se rió.

4. Brad comío un dulce cuando mi padre sacó esta fotographía.

5. Cuando nosotros jugábamos, mi madre se río.

6. Cuando mi padre sacó la fotographía, mi perro ladraba.

Most of those cuando's seem to need to be mientras.

Normally you would have the imperfect background action going on "cuando" the preterite action interrupts.

Cuando nosotros cantábamos, yo apagué la vela.

Nosotros cantábamos, cuando yo apagué la vela.

We were singing when I blew out the candle.

Your last example is correct as the cuando introduces the preterite interruption.

Brad comía un dulce cuando mi padre sacó esta fotographía.
