What does "to put away" mean in Spanish?

I am in the 9th grade taking Spanish 1. We are reviewing over "to be" Verbs. What is "to put away"?

Hi Merzi and welcome to the forum. I have edited your title to reflect forum guidelines (Avoid phrases like "translation please", "how do I say this", "I'm new" and similar expressions.) Thanks and again - welcome to the forum - Izanoni1, Dec 2, 2009

You can also use "meter" for "to put away", and "guardar" is a good one. "He put away his wife" is not a common idiom and I would avoid using it.

He put away his wife (semi-Biblical phrasing) - He divorced his wife. He put away his clothes. - Puso la ropa en su lugar. He put away some money for the future. - Ahorró algún dinero para el futuro.
