Did I use the past tense correctly?

Is this correct-

"Él estudiaba el piano en el Invernadero Nacional de Música en México Cuidad"

I want to say he studied piano in the National Conservatory of Music in Mexico City, but I am not sure about the past tense, or even how I translated National Conservatory of Music. Gracias.
