e.g. the festival takes place each year (in spanish)
i have looked and the only thing i found was 'se dio'....is this correct?

To take place:
v.- tener lugar | llevarse a cabo | darse | acontecer | producirse | ocurrir
The festival takes place each year / El festival se lleva a cabo cada año

El Festival se presenta todos los años.

Pasar is a verb "to take place or happen." So is "ocurrir" and "suceder."
My best guess for that sentence would be:
El festival ocurre cada año.
