El Amor vs. La Amor
"Tú eres el amor de me vida" means "You are the love of my life." If I were saying this to a woman, would it be correct to say "Tú eres la amor de mi vida" (using "la amor" rather than "el amor")?

You said in your reply that it seems strange to refer to your "novia" in a masculine term.
Just keep in mind that these Spanish nouns have something to do with gender but absolutely nothing to do with sex, sexuality, sensuality, or the physical qualities or attributes of men or women. That should help you get past the problem you've set up in your very own head.

"Policía" led you astray because it is used to denote a person, but also as a group of cops. In the group case, it is "la" because the word is first & formost a feminine word.
"Persona" can mean man or woman, but the word is feminne as must used as such for both sexes.
Thank you for the detailed response. I thought "amor" might be one of those words that was flexible in terms of gender, like "policía." To the best of my knowledge, it is correct to refer to a male police officer as "el policía" and a female as "la policía." Seems very strange referring to my girlfriend as "el amor."
Hmmm. "No". That is the correct answer but it is also a pretty short answer. The longer answer is that the word "amor" is a masculine noun and will be preceded by a masculine definite article (in this case "el") or by an masculine indefinite article (the indef. art. "un"). The articles, definite or indefinite are associated with the noun they modify and not with the gender of the addressee of the sentence.
