Do you mean estratificación?

If this is what you mean then it would be the same as the English cognate "stratification" which would mean arrangement of substances into layers or layering (a term very common in geology and minerology)

For example: The stratification of the atmosphere into the troposphere, stratosphere, mesosphere, thermosphere and exosphere occurs due to various factors including temperature and density.
