The context is sailing and its vocabulary in Spanish. How does one say "main sheet" or "jib sheet" in Spanish?

A rope (cabo/maroma) or line (cuerda/línea) is called a rope or line only before it is put into service or use.

Once put into use to control either the main or the jib, the Spanish word "La escota" or "The sheet" is used.

Mainsheet = La escota de la mayor,

Jibsheet = La escota del foque

I hope this helps.

well explained Moe, as in sailing terms the word rope is not used, always a line - Jon-Dunn, Jul 18, 2013

Definitely useful terms. After looking smoe things up my best guess would be:

Cabo o maroma -> sheet foque -> jib vela mayor -> main

Cabo de foque, cabo de vela mayor.
