Is there an equivalent idiom for "laying it on thick" in Spanish, or is it the same idea as "buttering someone up?" Personally I tend to think of "laying it on thick" as being much more extreme than "buttering someone up." Any ideas?

The idiom "laying it on thick" does not always mean to "butter someone up" or praise a person. It means to exaggerate or "overdo it", but can often be associated with both praise or blame.

I would think that a more apt verb to use would be exagerar.

Me quieren engatusar para que les haga su trabajo.

They are trying to sweet talk me into doing their work.
