dorar la píldora

This one means "to sugarcoat something", to make a bad situation appear better,

Por ejemplo:

No puedo dorar la píldora, mi ingles es mal, mi español es peor.

En mi país, estamos cerca de las elecciones presidenciales, así que los candidatos andan dorando la píldora...

In my country, we are close to presidential elections, so that candidates are sugarcoating the pill...

LOL

it would be...the candidates are sugarcoating **things** or you can be specific about what they sugarcoat. Such as they are "sugarcoating their promises" - aloshek, Nov 20, 2009
"Sugarcoating their promises"... Lol, thanks Aloshek. - Carlos-F, Nov 20, 2009

No hay manera para dorar la píldora -- no me gusta él.

(There's no way to sugarcoat this -- I don't like him)

El vendedor de autos me estaba dorando la píldora para venderme un cacharro.

The car salesman was sugarcoating the condition of the car so he could sell me a lemon.

I don't know if I used this word correctly in English. Can someone tell me please?

Buen trabajo, es correcto. - aloshek, Nov 20, 2009
It might be more likely to say he sugarcoatED the condition of the car, but I think it's still correct the way yo have it - aloshek, Nov 20, 2009
Thanks aloshek - 0068e2f4, Nov 20, 2009
I think you could use either -ing or -ed just fine, depending on the sentence. - cheeseisyummy, Nov 20, 2009

Algunas melodías hermosas doran la píldora de letras desagradables que restan importancia a temas como el odio o la violencia, o incluso los fomentan.

Beautiful melodies may sugarcoat ugly lyrics that make light of or even promote ideas such as hatred or violence.

I'm not sure about combining 'dorar la píldora' with 'de ... algo.' Is that an appropriate usage?
