Should I use what or which for this sentence? Or should I rewrite it altogether?

Mayor Torres, what have been the benefits to Hispanic merchants in the city of Paterson?

In english I would write it like this, "Mayor Torres, what benefits have been available to the Hispanic merchants in the city of Paterson?"

In spanish I would write this, "¿Alcalde Torres, qué beneficios han estado disponibles a los comerciantes hispanos en la ciudad de Paterson?"

Hi Robertico,

I would probably word the sentence in a completely different way:

Mayor Torres, Can you please explain what the benefits have been to Hispanic merchants in the city of Paterson?

It may be somewhat different than your wording, but I think it flows better that way. It is actually a coincidence, but I have typed numerous business letters to doctors in Paterson, NJ and also Newark and NY through my work. I really enjoy proofreading (in English!!! jeje) since it is what I do all the time. Any time you need help, let me know

What is perfectly correct here. If you wanted to use "which" you would have to include a qualifying word......

You might also use "which" if your point were that the benefits available to Hispanics were only a subset of those available to people in general.

Hey, you're a native speaker!! Es una prueba? OK, I'd say "Cuáles han sido los beneficios...", but I may be wrong... (no será ni la primera ni la última vez!)

Or do you mean in English?... "What have been the benefits..."
