Hi Pereril,

And the sentence more or less: Then we know how we are (have been) mistaken

Very close, but your original sentence would translate to:

Then we know that we must have been wrong/mistaken

I would also like to thank you Moe and Mountaingirl for the lovely sarcasm.

I think that you may have been mistaken in assuming that there was any sarcasm directed towards you (Tal vez estás equivocado). Moe frequently offers suggestions such as these to new forers/users because it helps keep the forum running smoothly and makes searching for information on the forum easier, less cumbersome and more productive. I think that you may have misjudged his intentions as I don't think that he was intending to cause you grief but rather to help you navigate this site better. Judging from previous responses that I have seen from Mountaingirl, I would suggest that you not take her response as sarcasm as I don't believe that was her intent.

This word is not in the dictionary on this site or any other dictionary online

I am not sure why you have not been able to find it in any online dictionaries; however, it may be that it doesn't show up when you type in the plural (equivocados). Try typing in the word as the singular (equivocado) and you should be able to find the word you are looking for. If you remember this little trick for the future when looking up words, it might make things easier for you.

Here is a link to the word as it is listed in the dictionary on this site:

Equivocado

Best of luck!

This phrase is really wordy. Simply say, "Estamos equivocados" and have done with it: "We're mistaken."

Closer still but in the original sentence it's "debimos"; thus "Then we know that we must have been wrong/mistaken"

Please don't think anyone wants to put blame anywhere, pererik87. There's enough of that in life already without getting more from a web based learning site. smile

From my point of view I didn't even know this was a forum before I had already posted.

Funny you mention that. We recently discussed this dilemma. Check out this thread here posted by Heidita, one of the site administrators: Do you feel this forum has a "don't ask for help attitude"? And then this thread was a response to the discussion: Suggestions for changes to keep the forum friendly.

Since this is a free site, and we are all learners (even the native speakers will admit they are learning), the answers that are given, and the style in which they are presented will vary.

I have only been a member for one month. However I have really found the interaction this forum provides to be positive and beneficial. I really think you will also. cool smile

From my point of view i didn't even know this was a forum before i had already posted.

I went directly from the dictionary where i didn't find the answer -> ask a question promt on the site -> i wrote the question and i got the responses

"check dictionary" and "all users are asked to read service and guidelines".

I see this as a combined fault from myself, the webpage, and moe and mountaingirl. where the webpage clearly fails to promt the service and guidelines from this direction -> moe and mountaind girl amuses i come from the forum site and in the end i fail to understand that they assume i came from the forum site that i didn't know about.

Please if its not to much to ask and if im not mistaken or flip thought this to fast. Change a few lines in the http://www.spanishdict.com/answers/ask .

Im, sorry guys i was just hoping for a quick reply on what a word meant in the text of a exercise. Thanks to 280ezider for the answer.

I would also like to thank you Moe and Mountaingirl for the lovely sarcasm. This word is not in the dictionary on this site or any other dictionary online ive tried. And no you dont ask all members to read your "Rules and Guidelines" before making entries in the Forum. I simply pressed ask question in the dictionary and wrote my question.

equivocados. in this frace: "entonces sabemos que debimos de estar equivocados."

So if i got 280ezider correctly the word means "mistaken". And the sentence more or less: Then we know how we are (have been) mistaken

so again thanks to ezider and yes i also find the teacher kind of wordy.

This word is not in the dictionary on this site

You are right pererik87! I have found this to be true of other forms of words also. And as learners, how are we supposed to know that there is another word that is similar (like without an 's') that means the same thing? Well, I wanted to share a trick about this website that some of the forers taught me.

Double click on any word on this website, such as equivocados in your question. A small blue box will pop-up with a suggested definition. You can click on either word and it will take you to the definition. This isn't perfect, but it usually points us in the right direction. In this case, clicking on the word 'equivocados' in that box shows nothing, but clicking on 'wrong' takes you to the definition of this word. From there you find the word "equivocado."

I also want to assure you, as Izan did, that Mountaingirl and Moe are among the most helpful forers on the site. You might find it interesting to read their profiles to see 'where they are coming from'. (Ditto with Izan's.) wink

I hope that helps! And we look forward to seeing you around!

Hey, welcome to the forum.

I see that you have lots of points from lessons; good job!

There's a lot more to this site; this is a perfect opportunity for you to use the dictionary at the top of this webpage. I am positive that "equivocado" will be in there!
