Is "mal" the wrong word?

Why is "mal" wrong in these sentences? And what would be correct?
"Esto es bueno pero también es mal."
"El teléfono celular es technolgía buen y mal."

Because mal here is a noun. You need adjectives. --- es malo ---is bad
also the second sentence should read --- "La tecnología del teléfono celular es buena y mala.
es buena y mala. --- is good and bad ---adjectives
bien y mal --- nouns
