Obtener is the verb to obtain. So, when using obtener it is conjugated in the preterite obtuve, obtuviste, obtuvo, obtuvimos and obtuvieron. An example sentence could be "Esta mañana yo obtuve mis notas" which is "This morning I got/obtained my grades".

Hope it helps!

Would it not be obtuvO here rather than obtuvE? - Yeser007, Nov 16, 2009
No, it would be obtuve because that is the 1st person singular conjugation for obtener in the preterite. Obtuvo would be the third person singular. - SenorMike, Apr 25, 2010
