De pronto as "perhaps"

De pronto as "perhaps"

While we were at a park on the Amazon last week we heard a noise shortly after dark. I asked one of the other guests what made the noise. She said: "No sé. De pronto un sapo." I heard someone else use "de pronto" in the same way--to indicate possibility. Is this just a regional thing, or is this usage common throughout the Spanish speaking world?

I would say it is used in many Spanish speaking countries but not in all. Caribbeans for example wouldn't use this expression.

HI Clavo my friendsmile

Yes, regional, I have heard this used by Ecuatorians for example.

Here in Spain this particular use is not common.
