I'm really confused on what to use. For instance: Hace frio aqui porque las puertas______ abiertas. Which do I use? Estan or son, and why?

Hello cupcake, and welcome to our forum.

You would use estar there, because it is the condition of the door. You use estar for condition of things.

Here is a thread LINK which will help you figure it out. Especially pay attention to the Ser v Estar link by Lazarus mentioned in the thread.

¡Buena Suerte!
