Well, the Southeast is pretty big and probably has lots of accents, but where I'm at we would never pronounce bake as back. Here bake might be two syllables long, but the a is definitely long: /BAY-eek/

I've got to bake a cake ==> /Ah GAW-ut too BAY-eek uh CAY-eek/

(It's not quite that bad...but almost...in some areas. Of course, I'm in L.A....that's lower Alabama, which includes northwest Florida. The accents might be different in, say, Kentucky or Tennessee).
