When do you use" a el" or "a mi" amiga?

When do you use a el or a mi amiga....essentially when do you use "a".

What is the deal with le, when do you use le

You use "a él" when you wish to include "to him" in your sentence.

You use "a mi amiga" when you are referring to one of your female friends.

If he or she is serving as the indirect object of the sentence then you include the i.o. pronoun le.

Quiero que le des el libro a él.

I want you to give the book to him.

Quiero que le des el libro a mi amiga.

I want you to give the book to my (girl)friend.

When to Use the Indirect Object Pronoun

If there is an indirect object in a sentence, there MUST be an indirect object pronoun! >You can also have the prepositional phrase "para nosotros" or "a Miguel" to add >emphasis, but you can NOT only have the prepositional phrase

Compré una tarta a mi hermana por su cumple. (no i.o.p)

I'm not saying that our lesson rule is correct. (see article below for instance) I'm just saying that your sentence violates the lesson's rule.
