How to study/ revise and learn!!!!
Hola a todos!!! I have been taking a course in spanish at a school in Sydney one night per week. I also dabble in Rosetta Stone. I also use Skype. I watch Spanish movies. Is this all ok to do or would one say to learn one thing at a time??? Is it too much all at once???? Sometimes I get confused on how to contruct a GOOD STUDY PROGRAMME. Once these lessons are finished at the school I am going to revise what I have learnt in the last 60 hours of class room tuition. Then in March I am off to argentina for 3 weeks. 2 weeks at a school and 1 week free. After that I will do a home study course I think. I have read about the Pimsleur courses you can buy and they sound quite beneficial?? What does anyone suggest with regards to a study programme??? Do a little bit of each whether it is listening, speaking ,writing etc. etc. etc., or just do one thing at a time??

Hola Mike,
I think the approach you are taking is the best. By that, I mean that the fact that you are exposing yourself to so many different Spanish learning tools is usually a good thing.
That being said, you will probably want to start organizing yourself and setting some goals. Everyone has a weakness. Figure out what yours is and spend a little extra time daily focusing on that weakness. That area of difficulty might evolve over time, but you get the idea.
You should always spend some focused time on grammar and reading daily. Learning new vocabulary is great to do while waiting for the train, for an appointment or whenever you have a few extra minutes of time. Also, I suggest carrying around a small notebook to write down words you want to look up as you think of them. This will be extremely helpful in Argentina. Finally, you will want to practice listening and speaking. Listen to as much Spanish media as possible, including TV, movies, music, etc. Speaking is difficult without someone to correct you. But even if that is not possible, speak or read out loud to yourself.
The idea is to break down the different areas of learning a new language and spend some quality time working on each area daily. You do not have to be perfect. Just make some monthly goals for each of the highlighted areas and do your best. As always, there are plenty of people here on the forum ready to help you.

Are you having fun doing this? Do you see your comprehension and skills improving? Are you flying like a dragon fly over vast amounts of water only to lite on the surface of a droplet supported solely by surface tension before you buzz off again when you see your reflection in the droplet?
Only you will know how you learn best, what your learning goals are and when you achieve them.
If you decide to drop the travel portion of your studies in an effort to simplify I will gladly accept your ticket.
Welcome to the site. Visits here might help you knit these things together.
It amazes me how many people use Rosetta Stone and think they are getting something from it. I see ads for it at the top of this site too. I did Levels 1 and 2 which took about 2 months of studying everyday and all I ended up remembering from those courses was delante, detras, lejos, cerca, and caballo. Pimsleur is pretty good though.
Yes i am having fun. My skills are improving but slowly. I always loo out for new things but sometime i will get carried away with new things and i get to a piont that i have takn on too much at one time. But anyway i am quite interested in the Pimsluer method. I might do some more research!!!! Thanks for your feedback!
