medium length wavy dark hair

Question

I have got medium length wavy dark hair.-

I would like to know if the placing of the adjectives is correct. Is it well written the sentence? Or does it sound strange if I put so many adjectives together?. Thank you beforehand.

Medium lenght hair = media melena

wavy = ondulado (much better than "ondeado" when it goes with "hair").

The answer is not so easy. It depends on the use. I would advise you to separate the concepts. It is much easier.

" I have medium lenght dark hair" = tengo media melena y el pelo oscuro.

As you can see, there is a problem when you use the concept "medium lenght hair" because "hair" only has to be translated as "melena" when it goes with "medium lenght". You cannot usually say "melena oscura". I only see that when I am reading a book. It sounds too affected. For example: ella tenía "la melena oscura" sounds like a text in a romantic book. If you use it when you are talking, you can sound pretentious.

You can always use "melena" when it goes with "medium lenght". Because it is the only way. Use "melena" with "medium lenght". Medium lenght hair = media melena. But try not to put together the colour when the traslation is "melena" if you do not want to sound affected. Never use "melena" with the colour if you do not want to sound affected, please. Gramatically it is correct, but it depends on the situation.

I am going to give you more examples. I hope they are enough to understand it better all the examples with "hair".

I have got short dark hair = tengo el pelo corto y oscuro.

I have got long blonde hair = tengo el pelo largo y rubio.

I have got medium lenght dark hair = tengo media melena y el pelo oscuro. Or "tengo el pelo oscuro y media melena". (I don't know why but we use to saying it in that order).

(Notice how I have separated the sentence and I have tried to put the colour with the expression "pelo" not to sound affected).

I have got medium lenght wavy dark hair = tengo media melena y el pelo oscuro y ondulado. (Also, instead of "ondulado" we prefer to use "a bit curly-un poco rizado" for the same reason: Who wants to sound so affected?).

I have got straight dark hair = tengo el pelo lacio y oscuro.

Hi Nila,

Your sentence sounds fine. And we would be as likely to say it that way as to say it any other way, whether in writing or in conversation.

However, and I don't know if this just me or what, I prefer to write medium-length (with a hyphen) in this case where you are using the two words as a single adjective. Thus I would write: I have medium-length, wavy, dark hair. Without the hyphen, I would write it thus: I have wavy, dark hair of medium length. But that may just be a style preference on my part.

Regardless, we would definitely say it that way among many other ways.

I have got medium length, wavy and dark hair.

But it would sound good to me in a conversation.
