Ladybug- which is more common?

Me gustaria saber si es mas commun decir "mariquita" que "catarina" por expresar "ladybug"....

I could not find "catarina" in any of the dictionaries I often use. I tried a Google search and again found nothing. Are you able to tell us where you saw that word used? Can you give us the paragraph or sentence it was used in?
So far, I would have to say that "mariquita" is the word most used unless you can provide a source for the other word.

In Texas it's a ladybug. Never heard of it called a ladybird.

In the part of Mexico where I'm originally from the common name is "Catarina"
en mi opinion mariquita es mas popular que catarina aunque yo tambien la conozco por ese nombre y ladybug traducido al espanol lo en tiendo como senorita gusano o senorita insecto.

I understand a type of gay person being called "Catalina", but why would you call a "mariquita" a ladybug?
Entiendo que se puede llamar un tipo de "gay" Catalina, pero no entiendo porque se llama un mariquita - ladybug? Que significa "ladybug" en inglés?
