Sorry, I'll include an English translation!: Last night was "Guy Fawkes" in New Zealand. Do you celebrate Guy Fawkes? I like the fireworks a lot! And you?

¡Hola!, April-Sarah:
I'm a Canadian. I live near Toronto, Ontario. Before I was eight years old, I lived in Kingston, Ontario. Kingston, as it then was, was a city steeped in British ways and populated by many United Empire Loyalists who exited the U.S.A. during that countries struggle for its own independance. British immigrants also flocked to Kingston.
Since moving from that side of Totonto when I was eight, to where I am now, Guy Fawkes day has not been celebrated or even recognized. Local history where I am now is more rooted in Pennsylvania Dutch and Mennonite immigrants in conestoga wagons. Later, German immigrants flocked here.
I miss Guy Fawkes day because there can never be enough excuses for los fuegos artificiales.
Thanks for evoking a memory.
Moe
Guy Fawkes Night (or "bonfire night"), held on 5 November in the United Kingdom and some parts of the Commonwealth, is a commemoration of the plot, during which an effigy of Fawkes is burned, often accompanied by a fireworks display. The word "guy", meaning "man" or "person", is derived from his name.
