After arguing with your wife, the best way to end it is to say "Yes, dear!"

(After 26 years of marriage, at least I've learned something!)

If she is Hispanic then you'd better say "cariña" not "cariño" or it'll start all over again! ;-) - chaparrito, Nov 5, 2009
No chaparrito- cariño es masculino solamente. - Goyo, Nov 5, 2009
Exactly! And that's why he had better say 'cariña'. ;-) - chaparrito, Nov 5, 2009
I'm open to seeing the conversation, but cariña is an entirely different word- not a masculinized version of cariño. Look it up in the RAE. - Goyo, Nov 5, 2009
I'm not sure what the emoticon equivalent is for smacking myself on the forehead (insert here), but I obviously got my cariño/querido mixed up. :-( Thanks Goyo! - chaparrito, Nov 5, 2009

When people debate politics, tempers often flare and the argument may turn into a quarrel. cool mad

I'm glad we're reviewing this word. smile It is a false cognitive that I often hear used incorrectly by us Spanish learners. The English word 'Discuss', although it sounds similar and is probably related, frequently has a positive or neutral tone to it. Whereas 'duscutir" is rarely positive.

¡Me daba rabia!

My wife and I took a trip two weeks ago to see our daughter. They argued constantly over trivial matters. It made me sick!

“I want to discuss something with you. I'm in room 205. By any chance, do you have a slightly smaller room? " " Just a moment please .......(looking at the computer screen )....... No sir, no. " " Well, then, Do you have a darker room? " " Just a moment please ........... No, 205 is in the basement. " "A little more run down?" "Give me a second ......( looking at the computer screen )....... No, Sir,"
"Brilliant, room 205, is the smallest, darkest, tackiest room in the whole hotel. Can I change Room 205 for the best that there is?"

“Will the one who contends with the Almighty correct him? Let him who accuses God answer him!”

Job 40:2

Job 40:2

There are two words here that mean the same:

disputar --- disputa, another word for argue --- discutir.

contender --- to contend, to fight, argue --- discutir

Also de bíblical version that Seitheach gives has another synonym:

reprender --- reprende --- to reprimand, to reprehend --- reñir, discutir

I know it's best to never discuss politics and religion with strangers.

Corrections, anyone?

The sentence is good just needs some small corrections.
