Hello! For my Spanish class, we watched the movie El hijo de la novia. Then we had to write three paragraphs about it. I only know the present indicative, preterite, and imperfect verb tenses, but most of this composition is in the present tense. I know it is fairly long, so thanks in advance!
El hijo de la novia es una película argentina que cuenta el relato de Rafael Belvedere. Rafael, o Rafa, pasa por la crisis de la mediana edad. Es dueño de un restaurante y trabaja mucho del tiempo. Su madre está en un hospital porque ella sufre de Mal de Alzheimer y él no la visitaba por más de un año. Su padre, Nino, quiere casarse con su madre en la iglesia y Rafa cree que es un sueño loco. Rafa tiene una ex-esposa y una hija, Victoria. Él no está llevando bien con su novia, Naty, y no entiende las necesidades de Victoria. El estrés causa muchos problemas en su vida. Rafael no puede dormirse; mira la televisión por todo la noche. Come comida en la noche también. El estrés probablemente contribuía a su ataque de corazón. Entonces, mientras está en el hospital, Rafa dice que quiere dejar todo, ir a México y vivir una vida sencilla.
The Son of the Bride is an Argentinian movie that tells the story of Rafael Belvedere, Rafael, or Rafa, is in a mid-life crisis. He is the owner of a restaurant and works much of the time. His mother is in a hospital because she suffers from Alzheimer's disease and he did not visit (I don't know how to say has not visited.) her for more than a year. His father, Nino, wants to marry his mother (help: how can I best clarify RAFA'S mother? ) in the church and Rafa thinks it is a crazy idea. Rafa has an ex-wife and a daughter, Victoria. He is not getting along well with his girlfriend, Naty, y does not understand the needs of Victoria. The stress causes many problems in his life. Rafael cannot sleep; he watches the television all night long. He eats food during the night, too. The stress probably contributed to his heart attack. Then, while he was in the hospital, Rafa said that he wants to leave everything, go to Mexico, and live a simple life.
Sin embargo, cuando Rafa lee un poema escrito por Victoria, él se da cuenta del valor de sus seres queridos. Decide que no quiere vivir sin estrés. Prefiere se queda con su familia, aun si la tiene muchos problemas. Rafael va a hablar con Naty y ellos se reconcilian. Él decide ayudar a su papá, Nino, a realizar su nuevo sueño: dar Norma una boda que ella quería siempre. Rafa empieza pasar más tiempo con Victoria. Al final, Rafa está contento. Una serie de acontecimientos inesperados se ayudaba a comprender que él no puede estar feliz sin el amor de sus seres queridos.
However, when Rafa reads a poem written by Victoria, he realizes the value of his loved ones. He decides that he does not want to live without stress. He prefers to remain with his family, even if it has many problems. Rafael goes to talk with Naty and they make up. He decides to help his dad realize his new dream: to give Norma a wedding that she always wanted. Rafa begins spending more time with Victoria. In the end, Rafa is happy. A series of unexpected events helped him understand that he cannot be happy without the love of his loved ones.
Antes de mirar la película, imaginaba que va a ser aburrida. Yo estaba sorprendida. ¡A mí me gusta mucho la película! No es ridícula. A mí me parece una película moderna que las personas de países hispanos probablemente miran. El hijo de la novia no es solo una película de segunda categoría para mirar en la clase de español. Esta película retrata la importancia de la familia y los amigos.
Before watching the movie, I imagined that it was going to be boring. I was surprised. I liked the movie a lot! It is not ridiculous. It seems to be a modern movie that people in Hispanic countries probably watch. The Son of the Bride is not only a second-rate movie to watch in Spanish class. This movie depicts the importance of family and friends.
