Como se dice "try to stop laughing?"
"I will try to stop laughing." Do you use intentar? or tratar de dejar...?
Thanks!

Estaré tratar a deténerme de riendo. (I will try to stop myself from laughing.)This is not correct
You can say: "Estaré tratando de comunicarme contigo" --- I will be trying to communicate with you.
Or you don't have to use the verb to be (estar): " Trataré de comunicarme contigo" --- I will try to communicate with you "
Yet another way without the verb to try (tratar): " Estaré en comunicación contigo." --- I'll be in touch with you.
Now for the rest of the sentence.
Detener means to hold back, to stop. "Superman detuvo el tren con una mano." --- Superman stopped the train with one hand.
But in the original sentence detener is not very commonly used. Other verbs that can be used here, that have the same or a similar meaning are: Aguantar (to hold back) and "parar" (to stop).
?Te puedes aguantar la risa? --- Can you hold back (stop) your laughter?
?Puedes parar de reirte? --- Can you stop laughing?
If you want to use "riendo" as Daniel did, then you could say: "Puedes parar de estar riendo(te) tanto?" Here "riendo" will meaning laughter. If you use "riéndote". then that will mean "laughing".
Can you stop laughing so much? --- "?Te puedes parar de estar riéndote tanto?
Can you stop (quit) your laughter? --- "?Te puedes parar de reir tanto?"
Another use for the word riendo: "El se está riendo--- "He is laughing" In this case riendo becomes laughing, which can also be said as "riendo(se)"---"El está riéndose"
So if we try to put these ideas together we can get something like:
"Estaba trantando de aguantar la risa cuando la maestra entró en el aula." ---"I was trying to hold back my laughter when the teacher came into the classroom."
"Estuve tratando pero no pude parar las ganas de reir"--- "I was trying but I couldn't stop the urge to laugh."
I hope this helps.
You have to try to construct sentences even if you make mistakes don't worry. This is how you polish your Spanish. Don't get negative on me. - robertico
Oh my Gosh -- Robert: You never need to worry about me going "negitive". I love to be corrected -- That is what I am here for.
You should have seen some of my blooper's a year ago -- they would make you proud.
Estaré tratar a deténerme de riendo.
(I will try to stop myself from laughing.)
One of many ways to say this.
It also could be translated as:
Trataré de parar mis carcajadas...
I will try to stop laughing...
Trata de dejar la risa...hmmmm This is suggesting that you turn serious. To stop horsing around!
Deja la risa ya! or Para de reirte!--- Stop the laughter --- Sounds like someone is getting annoyed.
Trata de parar de reirte --- Try to stop laughing --- has a more neutral connotation.
Voy a tratar de parar de reír is what I thought it was...
