Day of the Dead (Día de los Muertos) started with the Aztecs. They had a day that they celebrated the return of their dead relatives and friends. They would kill a dog to help guide the passed one to the heavens. They believed it took one year for them to reach the heavens so they could not celebrate until the year after their death.
