Ask him in French if he speaks Russian and if you get no response, show him your bilingual Japanese / Chinese phrasebook. If that doesn't get any response, just say, "Auf Wiedersehn Pet!".

I'm guessing you would speak English Louder and slower. That always works. Use a lot of hand gestures too.
