I looked the word up on spanish dict and my giant barron's spanish dictionary. I got two different things for the same word. I went to google and typed "la cesta basket" and "el cesto basket" and got results for both of them. So, is there any difference between them?

I mean something like an Easter egg basket, or a basket where you would put fruit. - yvonneibe7, Oct 31, 2009
These are interchangeable too. - 0068e2f4, Oct 31, 2009

It varies from country to country. Just make sure that you say "el cesto" or "la cesta" and you probably won't make a mistake. - 0068e2f4, Oct 31, 2009
In this case el cesto de basura or la cesta de ropa sucia can be perfectly understood. - 0068e2f4, Oct 31, 2009

La cesta is for nouns that are feminine whereas el cesto is used for nouns that are masculine?

That's for adjectives, dudu. Cesta is a noun. It IS masculine or feminine depending on what you mentioned, but it is not FOR masculine or feminine nouns. - MacFadden, Oct 11, 2010
