Ok, so I was thinking about the word of the day and how there are examples sent to help learners better understand how to use the words. Then, I came up with the idea, why don't we, the spanish-speakers, help the admin throw out sentences and phrases. Like it could almost be a randomized competition. We could get the word ahead of time, those that are advanced and fluent in spanish, and we could send them in to the admin, then they could randomly choose one sentence that appeals most to them, and put it into the email. I think it would be a fun way to contribute, and maybe even help out the admin. Of course specifications would be something like this:

-No one could be chosen more than twice a week (unless neccessary due to a lack of participation or poor participation). -Phrases/Sentences would need to be properly punctuated, spelled, and used.

And i'm sure admin could take it from there and make it something fun, but still completely educational. Can I get some votes and feedback on this? Heidita, you kinda like my hyna who watches my stuff and guides my posts pretty well, I'd like to hear your input especially on this one. grin

It would be: "they could randomly choose (rather than chose) one sentence" - kittybrougham, Oct 31, 2009

I don´t know how much Paralee would appreciate this extra work.

Possibly

Maybe

Probably

Hopefully she will see this thread and make a comment.

:

I like this idea, but I would love to see all the sentences.

The current software seems to want to encourage the notion that there is a "best" answer (or, more accurately, a "most popular" answer). Unless one is convinced that the majority is always correct, it should be obvious that "might does not make right".

I would much prefer to see a variety of (possibly different) opinions (with, one would hope, supporting arguments), rather than the "most popular" opinion.

Well, Heidita, I'm thinking to a Email made particularly for that purpose, and then someone could retrieve, sort, and then hand over the results to the Admin member who is in charge of sending those emails out and updating the site. Anything else? grin

Hmmm, I don't know if I am too thick to understand this...but I don't. Can you explain?

You want to send the sentences where? by Mail? where ? I don't get it.

I like this idea, but I would love to see all the sentences. Getting a variety of sentences that use a word I am learning helps me understand it better, just like having several photos of the same person starts to give you a much better idea of what they really look like than just one.

Also, It might be work though to gather examples, choose one, explain the input needed to newcomers repeatedly, etc.

If this does not (or can not) happen, I would just strongly encourage all users to participate in the threads about the word of the day. We need the participation of our advanced and native speakers so much for contributing sentences and also helping to correct the attempts put forth by us novices.

I am doiong that all the time, kitty, ;) - 00494d19, Oct 31, 2009
yes, but you also have to account for the misuse of words in the examples...so a couple probably wouldn't be used. - DJ_Huero, Nov 2, 2009
