Asking questions in spanish

When asking a written question i spanish - how is the use of the questionmarks?
One upside-down at the beginning and one regular at the end? If so - why? What is the point of the first questionmark?

I don't know why, but in Spanish you must use one questionmark at the beginning.

A very similar question was just asked minutes ago here. Take a look at the answers as to where to place the question mark and exclamation point.
