Hola, is there a difference in Spain between "añadir" and "agregar"? They both seem to translate as "to add".

Are they used in the same way? Is one more common than the other?

Any help much appreciated, Rangi

You may find these two interesting:

Besides, agregar is used also as "collect", "agregate" or "heap", but you probably know that already smile

I always see "añadir" used in recipes for "add." Also, on my Yahoo homepage (which is in Spanish) it asks if you'd like to add pages and the word "añadir" is used.

mmmm, "añadir" means to add but it has some differences from agregar, not in the formal expression, (if u investigate the dictionary deffinition from both you will find that they are essentially the same) but in real life in my country for example we use "añadir" when u want to complete something that is not finished, like to fix something broken for example, now agregar is used to make something bigger or better, sumar is used as a formal term, in mathematics for example, one "suma" two numbers.

Hope it was usefull

A gentle reminder sir, please spell out the word ... you... texting shortcuts detract from the value of your enlightening answer. - LateToDinner, Aug 12, 2010

There's no difference. There are synonims.
